Carbon and Climate

Our Carbon and Climate Group offers a range of services in response to the challenges of a rapidly changing regulatory and business environment.

Our consultants analyse, estimate and report emissions, conduct carbon audits, examine climate risks and design mitigation strategies. We have been working in this field for 25 years, servicing both our private and public sector clients.

We have a multi-disciplinary team including chemical and environmental engineers, atmospheric scientists and environmental policy analysts. This team diversity provides our clients with an effective approach to assessing and solving carbon and climate related problems and is a unique feature of Pacific Environment.

Services

Our specialist services include:

Quantification

The financial dimension to carbon emissions highlights the need to develop accurate and reliable methods for estimation, reporting and auditing. We have the capability and experience to go beyond the standard textbook methods, which are often simplistic and inaccurate (mostly overestimating emissions) but widely used by most consultants.

Where appropriate, we develop tailored methods for site specific emissions estimates, able to pass regulatory and auditor scrutiny. Our specialists work from first principles in cases where limited site data are available. We have extensive field experience and a dedicated  emissions measurement unit.

With all of these elements, we can approach an estimation or emissions inventory task armed with the most suitable technical approaches, each with an associated cost and technical effectiveness that can be weighed up for a specific case.

Mitigation

Our chemical and environmental engineers are able to develop strategies and action plans to mitigate carbon liabilities. They take into account specific processes operating on any site or throughout an organisation and consider them in the context of corporate drivers and the various regulatory and voluntary programs in operation. Our policy and climate risk experts are also able to provide input to strategy development. Making decisions in a context of high uncertainty is an important issue in this context.

Climate Expertise

Pacific Environment’s in house meteorologists are able to explain climate change and climate model projections, analyse climate data and conduct specific investigations into the practical impacts of climate change and day to day meteorology. They also present occasional lectures on climate and meteorology for a variety of audiences.

Technology Solutions

Finally, through a dedicated R&D program informed by our subject matter expertise we have developed emissions reporting tools and real-time environmental management solutions that enhance our clients’ ability to stay in control of environmental obligations. Online NGER and NPI emissions calculation and reporting solutions are part of our technology offering.
