Optimising outcomes and measuring performance sums up our role as strategic advisor to the Westconnex Delivery Authority for air quality aspects of the project. Over the last twelve months we have been integral to the production of the air quality impact assessments for the M4 East and New M5 road tunnels.
Pacific Environment is engaged for the next 7 years on site to ensure the Garden Island Landfill’s environmental objectives and compliance are met. This work involves operation and ongoing maintenance of a low calorific flare, gas-field operation and additonal landfill gas monitoring/reporting.
Pacific Environment’s monitoring team ensured that the boundary monitoring was initiated, in compliance with the DER requirement. To reduce costs, the Pacific Environment team sourced an innovative and entirely new NO2 monitor that was used for the first time in Australia.
Pacific Environment’s risk assessment team conducted an assessment of Persistant Organic Pollutants (POPs) to understand the risks that they pose to the Australian population and environment. These chemicals can have developmental effects in children and have been linked to increases in ADHD and loss of IQ.
In 2014 Pacific Environment became and Associate member of CRC CARE. CRC CARE is a Cooperative Research Centre that has been established through funding by the Commonwealth and State Governments with contribution from industry to address the environmental issues around the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites in Australia.
A historical pesticide spill caused chemical contamination to an approximate 2km stretch of the neighbouring creek ecosystem and surrounding floodplain. They required total decontamination/ remediation/ restoration and validation of the contaminated sections of the creek, riparian zone and surrounding floodplain areas.

“Using a highly accurate vehicle-mounted laser spectrometer, air samples were taken by Pacific Environment for a total of 80 hours (in one second measurements) while covering local routes totalling 3,200 kilometres between July 2013 and May this year. The methane monitoring was undertaken before, during and after drilling and hydraulic fracturing of wells at the Waukivory Pilot Project.”
